Netflix has officially canceled Ransom Canyon after two seasons, bringing the Western romance drama to an unexpected end.
News of the cancellation broke on Thursday, September 10, with reports confirming that Netflix decided not to move forward with season 3.
The series had already faced uncertainty after season 1. Although it was ultimately renewed, the decision came more than two months after its initial premiere.
Season 2 arrived in July with fewer episodes and several cast changes. Despite being reportedly better received creatively inside Netflix, its audience numbers dropped significantly compared with the show’s debut season.
According to the supplied report, season 2 drew 4.1 million views during its first week, down 43 percent from the 7.2 million views generated by the season 1 premiere in 2025.
The first season also remained in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 for four weeks, while season 2 stayed on the chart for only three.
Based on Jodi Thomas’ book series, Ransom Canyon premiered in April 2025 and followed the lives, romances and conflicts of residents in Texas Hill Country.
Josh Duhamel starred as Staten, a man dealing with grief while navigating his complicated relationship with longtime friend Quinn, played by Minka Kelly.
Season 1 also introduced several other romantic storylines, including tensions involving Davis, played by Eoin Macken, and a younger love triangle featuring Lucas, Lauren and Reid.
Season 2 brought significant cast changes. Davis, Reid and Paula Jo were no longer part of the series despite having major roles during the first season.
Before the cancellation, showrunner April Blair had already discussed possible plans for season 3.
She said she wanted to introduce new characters, explore more of Lucas and Kit’s family history and potentially give Lucas a fresh romantic storyline.
Blair had also hoped to expand the musical side of the series, possibly introducing new performers or a character connected directly to the music world.
She previously described the possibilities for season 3 as “endless.”
Those plans will now remain unrealized following Netflix’s decision to end the series.
Both seasons of Ransom Canyon remain available to stream on Netflix.
