The cast and crew of Heroes came together for an emotional reunion to celebrate the life and legacy of their late costar Hayden Panettiere.
Writer and co-executive producer Bryan Fuller shared photos from the gathering on Tuesday, August 25, nearly 10 days after Panettiere died at age 36.
Fuller remembered the actress as someone who held a special place both professionally and personally among the Heroes family.
“A HEROES REUNION TO CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF THE YOUNG WOMAN WHO WAS #1 ON THE CALL SHEET AND #1 IN OUR HEARTS AND MEMORIES,” Fuller wrote on Instagram. He added that those in attendance shared stories about the light Panettiere brought into their lives.
Panettiere became a household name through her role as Claire Bennet, the seemingly indestructible cheerleader at the center of many of the NBC drama’s storylines. Heroes aired for four seasons from 2006 to 2010.
Several familiar faces from the series attended the memorial gathering, including Jack Coleman, who portrayed Claire’s onscreen father, as well as Masi Oka, Greg Grunberg, Santiago Cabrera, Adrian Pasdar, Jimmy Jean-Louis and Madeline Zima.
Zachary Quinto, who played villain Sylar, and Sendhil Ramamurthy also joined the reunion remotely through video calls.
Ramamurthy thanked those who organized the gathering, writing that it was good to see his former castmates and remember Panettiere together.
Zima also reflected on the emotional evening, describing the room as filled with love and saying she felt honored to have shared part of her life with Panettiere and the Heroes family.
Jean-Louis, who played René, also known as “the Haitian,” shared his own photos from the reunion. He described the occasion as deeply emotional, saying there was sadness but also an overwhelming sense of love, gratitude and warmth as the group remembered their former costar.
Panettiere’s father, Skip Panettiere, previously confirmed her death in a family statement, remembering his daughter as an “incredible light” who brought joy to those who knew her personally and to millions who watched her work.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Panettiere’s death. Reports have indicated that a possible overdose was referenced during the emergency response, but toxicology results and an official cause of death have not yet been finalized.
Throughout her life, Panettiere had spoken candidly about her struggles with addiction and depression. In an interview earlier this year, she described the serious physical toll substance use had taken on her body and recalled reaching a point when doctors warned that her health was in danger.
For those who worked alongside her on Heroes, however, the reunion focused on the memories they shared and the lasting impression Panettiere left behind.
More than 15 years after the series ended, the gathering showed that the bonds formed during Heroes remained strong — and that Panettiere continued to hold a special place in the hearts of the people who helped create the show alongside her.
