The age difference between Georgie and Mandy has been one of the biggest parts of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, but that issue is expected to become much less important in season 3.
Showrunner Steve Holland explained that the gap between the couple will start to fade into the background as Georgie gets older.
According to Holland, the situation felt much more noticeable when Mandy was married to a teenager. Now that Georgie is older and legally able to drink, the dynamic has changed.
Although Georgie and Mandy still come from somewhat different generations, Holland said the series plans to move away from making their age difference such a major source of conflict.
The CBS comedy, which premiered in 2024, continues the story introduced in Young Sheldon.
Georgie, played by Montana Jordan, first met Mandy, played by Emily Osment, during season 5 of the Big Bang Theory prequel.
At the time, Georgie was 17 and lied that he was 21, while Mandy, who was 29, claimed she was 25.
The truth eventually came out, but their relationship continued after they learned they were expecting a baby.
Since then, the show has explored the challenges of their marriage, parenting and very different stages of life.
The title Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has also caused fans to wonder whether their relationship is eventually destined to end.
Jordan has previously acknowledged that The Big Bang Theory established Georgie as someone who had multiple marriages.
However, the actor has said that neither he nor the audience necessarily knows whether those future marriages involve Mandy again or entirely different people.
Osment has also expressed hope for the couple.
She has said Georgie and Mandy genuinely love each other and have strong chemistry, leaving open the possibility that their “first marriage” may not necessarily be the end of their story together.
For season 3, though, one thing appears clear: viewers should expect fewer story lines centered specifically on the couple’s age gap.
Instead, the show may increasingly focus on how Georgie and Mandy navigate marriage, family and whatever comes next as Georgie continues growing into adulthood.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage returns to CBS on Thursday, October 8, at 8 p.m. ET. Previous episodes are streaming on Paramount+.
