Josh Heuston may not be returning for season 2 of Off Campus, but the actor already has a new project lined up.
Heuston, 29, is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Lauren Asher’s Throttled, the first book in her Dirty Air romance series.
The movie will be directed by Nzingha Stewart, with Melissa Osborne writing the screenplay. Elizabeth Banks and Maz Handelman are among the producers, while Asher will serve as an executive producer.
Published in 2020, Throttled is set in the world of professional car racing and centers on a forbidden romance between rising driver Noah Slade and Maya Alatorre, the sister of one of his rivals. Heuston will play Noah.
The casting marks Heuston’s first announced role following his departure from Off Campus, where he gained attention playing Justin in the Prime Video series.
Season 1 of Off Campus, which premiered in May, focused primarily on the relationship between Hannah, played by Ella Bright, and hockey star Garrett, played by Belmont Cameli.
Heuston’s Justin was initially part of Hannah’s romantic storyline, but her connection with Garrett ultimately proved stronger.
Although Justin appeared to have more story left to explore, series creator Louisa Levy previously confirmed that Heuston would not return for season 2.
Levy made it clear, however, that the door may not be completely closed.
“I love Josh and I would not write him off if I can find a way to bring Justin back at some point,” she said, noting that the show has not yet introduced Stella, the character Justin ultimately ends up with in the books.
Before his season 2 absence was confirmed, Heuston told Us that he hoped Justin would eventually find love.
“Justin is following his heart. He’s a little lover boy at heart,” he said, adding that he could imagine the character writing music about his heartbreak before moving forward romantically.
Heuston also explained that he wanted to give Justin enough depth to prevent him from becoming just another stereotypical “cool guy” character on campus.
In addition to Throttled, Heuston already has another project in development. He is set to appear opposite Ryan Corr in the Biblical horror-thriller The First Exorcist, which draws inspiration from accounts in the Gospels.
For now, fans hoping to see more of Heuston after Off Campus won’t have to wait for a possible Justin comeback. His upcoming role as Noah Slade will place him at the center of a new romance franchise built around high-speed racing and forbidden love.
