HBO Max has a strong thriller lineup for September 2026, ranging from brand-new suspense movies to crime classics, psychological mysteries and stylish action films. At the top of the list is Fuze, alongside Tom Cruise favorites The Firm and Eyes Wide Shut.
Fuze stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Major Will Tranter, who is called in after an unexploded World War II bomb is discovered at a busy London intersection. At the same time, Theo James plays professional criminal Giorgos Karalis, who is leading a team attempting to break into a nearby bank. As the two situations collide, the movie raises the question of whether they are really unrelated.
Another standout is the 1993 legal thriller The Firm. Tom Cruise plays Mitch McDeere, a top Harvard Law School graduate who accepts an unusually generous job at a small Memphis law firm. The impressive salary, house and other perks quickly become less appealing when Mitch discovers the firm’s biggest clients are connected to organized crime — and leaving the company could prove deadly.
Cruise also leads Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 mystery Eyes Wide Shut. After his wife, Alice, played by Nicole Kidman, makes a confession that unsettles him, Bill Harford embarks on an increasingly surreal journey through temptation and danger. His curiosity eventually leads him into a secret gathering where he witnesses something that could put his life at risk.
For viewers looking for something newer, Mother Mary stars Anne Hathaway as a troubled pop superstar who retreats to the English countryside and reunites with her former costume collaborator and ex-lover, played by Michaela Coel. Their complicated history slowly develops into an unusual psychological story involving fame, toxic relationships and supernatural elements.
Mystery fans can also turn to Murder on the Orient Express, with Kenneth Branagh starring as Hercule Poirot. What should be a relaxing train journey becomes a murder investigation when one passenger is killed and nearly everyone aboard appears to have a motive.
Other highlights include Glen Powell’s dark comedy-thriller How to Make a Killing, Yorgos Lanthimos’ unsettling The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the pandemic thriller Contagion and Park Chan-wook’s twisted family mystery Stoker.
The lineup also features recent titles such as Lurker, Dead of Winter and Flight Risk, plus action favorite Atomic Blonde and crime classics including Blood Simple and Out of the Past.
There are plenty of stranger choices too. Freaky Tales mixes revenge, action and science fiction, while The Front Room leans into psychological tension. Steven Soderbergh’s Kimi explores technology, surveillance and conspiracy, while Fritz Lang’s M remains one of the most influential thrillers ever made.
Rounding out the list are No Sudden Move, The Swimming Pool, Caddo Lake, Trap, The Lighthouse and Love Lies Bleeding. Together, the 25 selections offer everything from noir and murder mysteries to psychological horror and high-energy crime stories.
