Off Campus star Belmont Cameli is opening up about what changed for him financially in season 2 — and how long the Prime Video series could potentially continue.
During a joint interview with NHL player Macklin Celebrini for The Hollywood Reporter, Cameli, 28, was asked whether his salary increased between the first and second seasons.
“Yeah,” Cameli confirmed, explaining that raises are typically built into multiyear television contracts.
“When you sign an X amount of years for a TV show, there’s one baked in there,” he said, adding that renegotiations are also common after a certain point.
Cameli also addressed the future of Off Campus beyond season 2.
According to the actor, Amazon acquired the rights to all of the books several years ago, giving the adaptation plenty of material if the series remains successful.
“There are five books in the first [series]. There are another four [in the second series],” Cameli explained. “In success, it could run for a long time. We all hope so.”
Based on Elle Kennedy’s popular Off-Campus novels, the series follows members of an elite college hockey team and the relationships surrounding them.
Season 1 focused primarily on Hannah, played by Ella Bright, and Garrett, played by Cameli.
Fans initially expected the television adaptation to follow Kennedy’s original book order, which would have put Logan’s story next, followed by Dean and then Tucker.
Prime Video instead made a major change by announcing that Dean, played by Stephen Kalyn, and Allie, played by Mika Abdalla, would lead season 2.
Abdalla previously explained that the change made sense because Allie and Hannah’s stories are closely connected.
She also said the adaptation still intends to remain faithful to important parts of Dean and Allie’s relationship, even if some events appear earlier than they do in the books.
Despite each season shifting its romantic focus to a different couple, fans shouldn’t expect Hannah and Garrett to disappear.
Cameli previously reassured viewers that he and Bright plan to stay involved as the franchise expands.
“We will be along for the ride the whole time,” he said.
Bright also confirmed that the pair intends to stick around in future seasons.
With nine books across Kennedy’s connected series available for adaptation, Cameli believes Off Campus could have a long future on Prime Video — assuming audiences continue showing up.
