Anne Hathaway knows whether she and husband Adam Shulman are expecting a boy or a girl — but for now, the couple is keeping that information to themselves.
The 43-year-old actress appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, August 10, where guest host Anthony Anderson playfully tried to predict the sex of Hathaway’s third child.
Calling himself a “baby whisperer,” Anderson told Hathaway that he believed she was expecting another boy before asking whether his guess was correct.
“We know [but] we’re not saying,” Hathaway replied.
The studio audience responded with cheers, and Hathaway thanked them for supporting her decision to keep the detail private. She also admitted that refusing to answer the question can sometimes feel uncomfortable.
“Thank you for the support. It always feels so rude saying that,” she said, explaining that she sometimes feels bad when people ask and she chooses not to share.
Hathaway and Shulman are already parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. According to the actress, both boys are thrilled about welcoming another child into the family.
“They’re over the moon,” Hathaway said. “It feels really beautiful. It feels like the family’s having a baby.”
She added that while she will obviously be the one physically giving birth, the pregnancy has emotionally felt like something the entire family is experiencing together.
The new baby is arriving during an especially busy year for Hathaway.
During the interview, she was asked about balancing pregnancy with a packed 2026 schedule that includes several film projects. Hathaway has appeared in Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey, while her sci-fi thriller The End of Oak Street is scheduled for release on August 14. She is also set to appear in the Colleen Hoover adaptation Verity in October.
Rather than feeling overwhelmed by everything happening at once, Hathaway said she feels fortunate.
“It’s incredible,” she said. “I would never have imagined anything like this could happen.”
Hathaway added that she is trying to embrace the unusual year by enjoying the experience, making memories and appreciating the opportunities in front of her.
Her appearance came one day after she attended the world premiere of The End of Oak Street in Burbank, California, with costar Ewan McGregor.
Hathaway wore a pale blue top with low-rise jeans, putting her baby bump on display after online speculation questioned whether her pregnancy bump was real.
She responded to the chatter herself on Instagram while sharing a behind-the-scenes video from the premiere.
“Fake hair, real bump,” Hathaway wrote in the caption.
The Oscar winner first announced her third pregnancy in June. She later joked that she and Shulman were calling the pregnancy their “buzzer-beater,” borrowing the basketball term for a successful shot made just before time runs out.
For now, however, one detail remains firmly within the Hathaway-Shulman household: whether Jonathan and Jack will soon be welcoming a little brother or a little sister.
