Jennifer Love Hewitt is speaking out in defense of Anne Hathaway after online commenters questioned whether the actress’ pregnancy bump was real.
Hewitt, 47, addressed the criticism in an Instagram Story on Monday, August 10, praising Hathaway while calling for an end to unnecessary commentary about women’s bodies.
“Anne Hathaway, you are perfection,” Hewitt wrote while tagging the Devil Wears Prada star. She praised Hathaway for working hard and handling everything “with such grace,” adding that she looked “incredible.”
Hewitt then directly addressed the body scrutiny surrounding Hathaway’s pregnancy.
“And now we are going to comment on her body while pregnant,” she wrote. “Please stop talking about women’s bodies. Please leave women alone.”
Hathaway, 43, is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman. She later responded to the speculation herself with a lighthearted Instagram post on Tuesday, August 11.
“Fake hair, real bump,” Hathaway wrote alongside a behind-the-scenes video showing her getting ready for the premiere of The End of Oak Street in Burbank, California.
The actress also joked about dealing with the heat as she prepared for the event, where her maternity look placed her baby bump front and center.
For the premiere, Hathaway wore a sky-blue high-neck top with a dramatic high-low design that exposed her stomach before flowing into a cape-like silhouette. The garment featured a contrasting cherry-red interior.
She paired the statement top with low-rise jeans and pointed red heels, finishing the outfit with diamond jewelry.
Her beauty look continued the red theme with a bright lip, while her brunette hair was styled in a sleek ponytail.
The appearance came amid increased public attention surrounding Hathaway’s pregnancy, but Hewitt made clear that she believes such attention should not extend to speculation or criticism about the actress’ body.
Hathaway announced in June that she and Shulman were expecting their third child. She revealed the news on Instagram with a photo of herself cradling her growing bump and the caption, “x Baby I’m yours x.”
The couple are already parents to two sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.
Hewitt’s defense also placed the focus on a broader issue faced by many women in the public eye: intense scrutiny over physical appearance, including during pregnancy.
