George Clooney and Amal Clooney enjoyed a rare family outing with their twins while attending a charity event in one of their most familiar destinations — Lake Como, Italy.
According to photos obtained by Page Six, George and Amal were spotted aboard a boat with their 8-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, on Tuesday, August 12. The family was headed to a benefit dinner for the Clooney Foundation for Justice at Villa Passalacqua.
The evening also gave fans an uncommon glimpse of the couple’s children, whom George and Amal have largely kept away from the public eye.
George, 65, wore a gray suit for the event, while Amal, 48, stepped out in a black floral gown. Alexander wore a tan blazer, while Ella was dressed in gold.
Since welcoming the twins in 2017, George and Amal have been particularly protective of their children’s privacy. The couple, who married in 2014, have spoken openly about wanting Ella and Alexander to grow up with as normal a childhood as possible despite their parents’ international fame.
That philosophy has also influenced where the family chooses to live.
The Clooneys obtained French citizenship last year and have spent significant time living in the French countryside. In an October 2025 interview with Esquire, George explained why raising his children away from Hollywood had become important to him.
He described their life on a farm in France, noting that his children spend less time focused on devices and more time participating in everyday family routines, including eating dinner with adults and clearing their dishes afterward.
George also admitted that he had been concerned about what growing up in Los Angeles might mean for Ella and Alexander.
“I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood,” he said, explaining that he did not want his children constantly dealing with paparazzi or being compared with other children of famous parents.
The family’s latest appearance was especially meaningful because it was connected to George and Amal’s charitable work.
The couple cofounded the Clooney Foundation for Justice in 2016, before becoming parents. The organization works internationally on issues involving human rights and access to justice, including legal support related to free speech and women’s rights.
Amal’s involvement reflects her longtime career as a barrister specializing in international law and human rights.
Earlier this year, Amal also spoke about how marrying George changed the balance between her professional and personal lives.
During a June appearance at the Cartier Dialogues event in Bangkok, she explained that before marriage she had been able to keep the two areas relatively separate. Becoming part of a highly public relationship required her to adjust to greater visibility.
Amal said she initially worried about whether certain aspects of her public image could affect how she was perceived professionally. Over time, however, she concluded that those concerns should not prevent her from doing things that mattered to her family and relationship.
“It was easier when I could decide what kind of exposure I got,” she said of life before marrying George. “It was something new to navigate.”
That balance between public life and family privacy remains a defining part of the Clooneys’ approach.
Their Lake Como appearance offered a rare look at George, Amal, Ella and Alexander together, but it also reflected the couple’s broader priorities: keeping their children largely outside the celebrity spotlight while making room for family, philanthropy and the causes they have chosen to support.
