Jenna Ortega’s sister has quietly weighed in after online discussion about the actress’ appearance intensified following a recent interview.
Aliyah Ortega appeared to support a social media post defending Jenna, 23, and urging people to stop making assumptions about her health based on her weight or appearance.
The post, which circulated after Jenna’s recent Esquire interview gained attention online, encouraged people to “mind [their] business” and give the Wednesday star privacy. Aliyah responded in the comments with three exclamation points, signaling apparent agreement with the message.
The person behind the post argued that people online had been making assumptions about Jenna’s health without knowing what may be happening in her personal life.
“She has every right to make whatever decisions she feels are best for herself without being judged, discriminated against or subjected to unnecessary speculation,” the post read.
It also urged fans to avoid intrusive questions and said that sometimes the most respectful response is simply to offer support and allow someone to live privately.
The discussion gained momentum after Jenna spoke about her experiences working as a child actor in her Esquire profile.
Looking back at her early years in the entertainment industry, Jenna said she was so focused on being professional and avoiding inconveniencing anyone on set that she sometimes neglected her own basic needs.
“I wasn’t asking for a sip of water,” she recalled. “I would go all day without eating, drinking, whatever, because I wanted so badly to not be in the way of anybody.”
Jenna described that behavior as something she now recognizes may have been a mistake because she was “not actually looking after” herself.
Her comments were about her experiences as a young performer and do not, on their own, establish anything about her current health. Nevertheless, photos and video accompanying the interview prompted further discussion about her appearance online.
Jenna has previously spoken critically about the pressures young actors can face while working in an industry built largely around adults.
The actress, who rose to prominence through Disney projects before becoming internationally known for her starring role in Netflix’s Wednesday, has said she feels fortunate that her parents placed limits around her acting career.
In a 2024 interview with The New York Times, Jenna said children should have opportunities to attend school, spend time with friends and experience ordinary childhood activities instead of being consumed by professional work.
She also recalled that her parents required her to prioritize school, sleep and maintaining strong grades before allowing her to take acting jobs.
“Child acting is strange,” Jenna said at the time, explaining that young performers are placed in adult workplaces at an unusually early age.
Her latest comments have renewed discussion about the demands she experienced while growing up in entertainment. But the message supported by her sister makes a separate point: public concern should not automatically become speculation about someone’s health.
For Aliyah, the three-exclamation-point response was brief, but it appeared to endorse a simple request from Jenna’s supporters — respect her privacy and avoid drawing conclusions from her appearance alone.
