Chris Evans says becoming a father has changed the way he looks at both his career and his time away from home.
The Captain America star recently offered a rare comment about fatherhood while appearing at a Fan Expo, explaining that welcoming his daughter has caused his priorities to shift.
“I have a daughter now and … you need a really good reason to want to go to work now,” Evans, 45, said in a clip shared on social media. “So, you know, priorities have shifted a bit.”
Evans and his wife, Alba Baptista, welcomed their first child together, a daughter, in 2025. Their daughter’s name was later reported to be Alma Grace Baptista Evans.
The couple has largely kept this new chapter of their family life private. Around the time of their daughter’s arrival, a source said Evans and Baptista were enjoying the early days of parenthood away from the public spotlight.
Evans’ latest remarks offer a small but meaningful glimpse into how becoming a dad has affected him personally. While acting has been a major part of his life for years, his comments suggest that family now plays a much bigger role in deciding which professional opportunities are worth taking.
His journey with Baptista has also largely unfolded outside the spotlight.
The pair were linked in 2021 before eventually making their relationship public on social media in January 2023. At the time, a source described their relationship as serious and said the couple enjoyed spending time together in Massachusetts, where they could live more quietly and stay close to nature.
Later that year, Evans and Baptista married in Cape Cod.
Evans confirmed the marriage the following month while appearing at New York Comic Con, revealing that they actually celebrated with two ceremonies — one on the East Coast and another in Portugal.
He described both weddings as “wonderful and beautiful.”
Evans has also shared a few details about how he proposed to Baptista.
Speaking to The Knot in June 2025, he revealed that he learned how to ask her to marry him in Portuguese because Baptista is Portuguese.
Evans said he practiced the proposal so often that he worried he might accidentally say the words in front of her before the right moment arrived. When it was finally time to propose, he admitted nerves may have caused him to stumble over the phrase — but the moment still led to the outcome he hoped for.
Now, the couple has entered an entirely new phase together as parents.
Evans has not shared many details publicly about life with his daughter, making his latest comments particularly notable for fans accustomed to seeing him keep his family life private.
Rather than describing any major parenting milestone, Evans focused on something more fundamental: how fatherhood has changed the value he places on his time.
For an actor whose career has included major franchises and high-profile productions, saying that a project now needs to provide a “really good reason” to leave home speaks to just how dramatically his priorities have evolved.
Fatherhood may not have ended Evans’ passion for acting, but his latest remarks make one thing clear — family now plays a much bigger role in deciding what comes next.
