Angie Katsanevas is putting family first during a painful new chapter in her life.
While promoting season 7 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Angie opened up about how she is coping with her split from husband Shawn Trujillo — and why her main focus right now is their daughter, Elektra.
Angie shared that for a long time she stayed quiet about the struggles she was facing because she wanted to keep showing up for other people. Now, however, she says she has reached a point where she is being more honest about what is happening in her life, even though that openness can make things more difficult emotionally.
The Bravo star explained that her biggest priority is making sure Elektra feels supported, safe and loved during this transition. According to Angie, she has spent nearly every moment possible with her daughter, filling the summer with riding lessons, Pilates, swimming and other shared activities. She described motherhood as the most important role in her life and said she is fully focused on being present for her child.
Because of that, Angie admitted she is currently in “self-preservation mode,” saying she has less time and energy to give to friendships while she navigates everything happening in her personal life. Even so, she made it clear that her intention is not to pull away from people forever — but rather to protect her peace while helping her daughter through a difficult time.
Angie and Shawn’s split made headlines in July, just weeks after their 27th wedding anniversary. Their marriage had previously faced public scrutiny on RHOSLC, including rumors and speculation in past seasons. Angie said the difference this time is that what viewers will see now is real, truthful and coming directly from her.
She also revealed that season 7 will show the emotional reality of what she and Shawn went through, including moments tied to telling Elektra about their separation. Despite the breakup, Angie said they are still a very close family and have tried to keep familiar routines in place for their daughter, including summer traditions and back-to-school moments.
For Angie, that consistency matters most. As she moves through this difficult period, she says one thing remains clear: her daughter comes first.
