Lionel Richie remains hospitalized in a St. Louis intensive care unit as doctors continue testing for cardiac-related issues following his recent concert appearance.
Sources familiar with the situation told TMZ that the singer is undergoing testing related to his heart. He is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday.
Richie checked himself into the hospital after his Saturday night performance at The Muny in St. Louis. Doctors initially also considered possible mild dehydration, and Richie had reportedly hoped to leave the hospital Tuesday.
During the St. Louis concert, people at the show said Richie appeared to be struggling toward the end of his performance. He reportedly asked his team to bring him a chair and sat while performing his final song, “All Night Long.”
The hospitalization comes after another health scare earlier this year. In June, Richie was taken to a hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, after becoming ill during the opening night of his tour. He told the audience that he felt “dizzy” and “strange” before cutting the performance short and being taken away by ambulance.
That incident forced Richie to postpone a scheduled Chicago tour stop.
Despite the recent health concerns, Richie currently has some time before his next scheduled performance. According to the supplied report, his next show is not scheduled until September 26 in San Francisco.
For now, Richie remains under medical observation while doctors continue evaluating his cardiac-related symptoms
