Rob Reiner received a posthumous Emmy Award for one of his final acting performances, earning an emotional standing ovation from the audience at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys.
During the ceremony on Sunday, September 5, Reiner was honored in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role as Albert Schnur in season 4 of FX’s The Bear.
Presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on Reiner’s behalf as the audience stood in tribute to the late actor and filmmaker.
“We all wish he was here,” McLendon-Covey said during the emotional moment.
Reiner competed in the category against Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow’s Bay, Christopher McDonald for Hacks and Connor Storrie for hosting Saturday Night Live.
In season 4 of The Bear, Reiner played Albert Schnur, a restaurant franchiser who helped mentor Ebraheim, portrayed by Edwin Lee Gibson, as he worked to expand The Original Beef sandwich window. The episodes were released in June 2025.
The Emmy recognition came months after Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood, California, home in December 2025.
Their son Nick Reiner was later arrested and charged in connection with their deaths. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Reiner’s other children, Jake and Romy, have continued to publicly mourn their parents. Jake has spoken about the devastating impact of losing both of them, describing the months since their deaths as both painfully long and shockingly immediate.
The Emmy win provided a powerful tribute to Reiner’s long career in entertainment and to one of his final television performances.
As his name was announced and the room rose to its feet, the moment became both a celebration of his work and an emotional remembrance of the legacy he left behind.
