OutDaughtered stars Adam and Danielle Busby are sharing why homeschooling has become the right fit for their 11-year-old quintuplets as the girls begin sixth grade.
During the Thursday, August 20, episode of the couple’s More Than Reality podcast, Adam, 44, discussed some of the social benefits he believes homeschooled children can experience. He said that, based on families they know personally, homeschooled kids often appear comfortable communicating with adults.
“If you look at the statistics of homeschooled kids, they’re more adjusted to interactions,” Adam said, adding that the homeschooled children he knows are often willing to make eye contact and carry on conversations with adults.
Danielle, 42, explained that academics were also a major factor in their decision. With the quintuplets moving into middle school, she said the family wanted to create an environment where the girls could focus more closely on their schoolwork before becoming overwhelmed by the social pressures that can come with public school.
Danielle noted that children entering middle school can become increasingly focused on friendships, appearance, sports and how they are perceived by classmates. Her goal, she explained, is to help the girls strengthen their academics first while gradually navigating the social side of growing up.
The couple previously revealed in a February episode of their podcast that they planned to move their daughters from public school into a homeschool co-op for sixth grade. Although homeschooling had not originally been part of their plan, Adam and Danielle said their perspective changed as their daughters grew older.
The Busbys, who welcomed their quintuplets in 2015 and later rose to fame through TLC’s OutDaughtered, recently gave followers a glimpse at the beginning of their new routine.
In an Instagram post shared Monday, August 24, Danielle celebrated the quintuplets’ first day of sixth grade. She described a relaxed start that included bare feet, comfortable clothes and a later morning schedule, while expressing hope that the family’s new homeschooling adventure would bring plenty of joy.
A photo accompanying the post showed five of the girls sitting on the family’s front porch with their dogs while holding handmade signs marking their first day of sixth grade.
The family’s decision drew plenty of reaction from followers. Several homeschooling parents shared supportive messages and encouraged the Busbys to enjoy the flexibility of their new schedule. Others questioned the decision, leading to debate in the comments.
For Adam and Danielle, however, the transition appears to be centered on finding an educational setup that works best for their daughters as they enter a new stage of childhood.
