Hallie Batchelder is speaking out after months of criticism about her appearance, saying the body-shaming she has faced online has gone too far.
The 28-year-old influencer addressed the issue in a TikTok posted Tuesday, August 18, telling followers that she is tired of repeatedly seeing negative comments about her body.
“We need to chill on the body shaming s***,” Batchelder said, adding that comments about her appearance have become repetitive and unproductive. She joked that there are “way more interesting things” people could criticize her for instead.
Batchelder said some of the messages she has received have become increasingly “evil” and “rude,” while noting that other creators have also faced harsh scrutiny over their bodies.
“I’m not gonna get bullied off this app,” she said. “That’s never happening.”
During the video, Batchelder acknowledged concerns about her current weight, saying she is aware that she is “too thin” and that it is something that needs to be addressed. However, she explained that public criticism has also created anxiety about what would happen if her appearance changed.
“Honestly, I’m more scared to gain weight and have people see that on this app and then get the comments on that,” she said. “I can never win in this category.”
Batchelder also responded to criticism surrounding her drinking habits, using humor while acknowledging that a doctor might have concerns about how much she drinks.
She ended the video by asking people to be kinder online, captioning the post, “Can we be nicer yo?”
Batchelder later revealed in the comments that the situation had escalated beyond criticism. After one supporter encouraged her to ignore negative comments, she replied that she had been receiving death threats and felt it was time to address the issue publicly.
Her brother, Sam Batchelder, also defended her, writing, “Everyone be nice to my sister please. She’s the coolest ❤️.”
Influencer Laura Galebe similarly criticized the culture surrounding online harassment, saying social platforms have normalized behavior that should not be tolerated.
