Salma Hayek is celebrating a major family milestone: becoming a grandmother.
The actress, 59, shared the happy news via Instagram on Sunday, August 16, revealing that she and her family have welcomed a new baby boy. In her sweet post, Hayek announced that her grandson’s name is François, continuing a family tradition shared by her husband, François-Henri Pinault, and her stepson, François Pinault Jr.
“We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of Francois’,” Hayek wrote. She also revealed the affectionate nickname she has already chosen for the newborn, adding, “Although I will call him Panchito. He seems to love it, and I cannot love him more.”
Hayek’s post included a touching video of the actress holding the baby in her arms and speaking to him in Spanish, giving fans a glimpse of the family’s joyful new chapter.
The Oscar-nominated actress became a grandmother after François, 28, and his wife, Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck, welcomed their first child together. Just days earlier, on August 12, Henckel von Donnersmarck shared her own update on social media, celebrating the couple’s first month as parents. Alongside photos with the newborn, she wrote, “My husband (the world’s coolest françois) and our son (the world’s cutest françois) … our first month as parents🐣.”
Hayek married François-Henri Pinault in 2009 after three years of dating. In addition to sharing daughter Valentina with her husband, Hayek is also a stepmother to his three other children: François and Mathilde, whom he shares with ex-wife Dorothée Lepère, and Augustin Evangelista, whom he welcomed with ex-girlfriend Linda Evangelista.
Over the years, Hayek has spoken openly about how much family means to her. In a 2017 interview with Red magazine, she reflected on becoming a mother later in life and on her long-standing wish to have a big family. She said she had always wanted many children and described her daughter as a miracle, while also expressing gratitude for the larger blended family she built with her husband.
Hayek has frequently shared loving tributes to her children and stepchildren, and this latest post adds another heartwarming milestone to that story. Now, with baby François — or “Panchito,” as she lovingly calls him — the actress is embracing a brand-new role as a proud grandmother.
